1. To start off, the SJC kit is my personal favorite. It is an all around great kit for any style of playing. Most of the kits are made from maple wood. Maple wood creates a great, full, resonating sound. Especially from the kick drum(the big drum). I own an SJC kit and I have had it for 6 years now. It is a very durable kit. Some drum kits begin to rust or break down after a few years, but not my SJC! Overall, great kit that I have loved playing for years!!
2. The second drum kit is the Gretsch Catalina Club Jazz kit. This little kit is great when it comes to some light jazz and swing playing. With a smaller kick drum and more shallow tom-toms, this kit adds the perfect background filling for a nice jazz tune. I have played in many jazz ensembles and have used this kit multiple times. It is very easy on the hands and allows for extremely fluid playing, which is essential in jazz playing.
3. The third and final is the Tama Rockstar kit. Generally, Tama kits are used for heavier music such as metal. Lars Ulrich, the drummer from Metallica, is one of Tama's most famous endorsers. Tama kits usually have a nice, full sound, but a very round sound as well. Tama kits sound great when they are tuned low. They give a great resonated sound, which sound perfect for a grand metal song. I have never owned a Tama before, but my style of play is not usually in the field of metal music.
Each of these kits are great and I would recommend each one for beginners or advanced players. Great sound, great feel...great drums.
